CHANCE THE RAPPER
Now this dude is what one would consider a modern day phenom. Hailing from the windy city of Chicago, Illinois, this kid is on the rise, vainly being on the lookout for rappers of that ilk.
Born in 1993, Chancelor was raised being into Jazz and Soul. He mentioned in an interview (just youtube “Chance The Rapper on Real Late w/ Rosenberg”) that fellow Chicago native Kanye West‘s 2004 debut album The College Dropout, was the first hip hop album that he ever purchased and listened to. Now that’s truly a new generation of rap. He then began to gain recognition following the release of his first two mixtapes: “10 Day” (following a 10-day suspension in spring 2011 during his senior year) in April 2012, which has been downloaded over 50,000 times from the mixtape sharing site Datpiff, and “Acid Rap”, which has been certified platinum after being downloaded over 250,000 times from the very same site, in April 2013.
In January this year, Chance The Rapper was included in XXL Magazine’s 2013 Freshman Class, their annual list of up-and-coming rappers. He was also highlighted as one of Complexmagazine’s “10 New Chicago Rappers to Watch Out For” and even made it on their cover just recently. Being on the road with Eminem and Kendrick Lamar already and just finishing opening up for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on their European Tour, Chance keeps on building a steady buzz. He can be a big one. Mark these words.
