Gentleman's Division

Erectile dysfunction troubles most men in the United States because of their low sex drive. The most common treatment is the prescription treatments with pills. But such treatments have common side effects like dizziness, indigestion, headaches, body aches and pain, congestion and vision loss. Also, there are other non-surgery treatments which include use of vacuum erection device, hormonal therapy and natural treatments. Let’s learn more about each method.

Prescription Treatment or Medication

Massachusetts Male Ageing Study shows that 52% of men between the age of 40 and 70 have some degree of erectile dysfunction. That’s up to 30 million men in the United States. Doctors can prescribe treatments for erectile dysfunction with the right drugs. Those prescribed drugs are commonly known as PDE5 (phosphodiesterase-5) inhibitors. Such drug pills include sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis) and vardenafil (levitras). PDE5 inhibitors work to protect and enzyme called cyclic GMP. Cyclic GMP helps to trap blood in the penile tissue for firm erection.

Use of Vacuum Erection Devices

A journal published on Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy stated that, vacuum erection device produced erection sufficient for intercourse in 87% of the tested men. This is a mechanical way of enabling erection for men and it’s commonly used because most men find other form of erectile dysfunction treatment preferable. This device is wrapped round your penis. It enables erection by drawing blood and prevents the back flow of blood by the use of a band.

Natural Treatments

Researches carried out have shown that natural treatments can help correct erectile dysfunction in men. Some of the natural treatments are

  • Panax Ginseng which is also known as herbal Viagra. This contains ginsenosides which helps at cellular level to improve erection.
  • Rhodiola rosea. Although this tends to improve energy and reduce fatigue, more research is needed to ensure its safety.
  • Acupunture is believed to improve erection. But researches show that it was successful among 39% of the tested users.

Other potential natural treatments are the L-arginine, Yohimbe and zinc supplement.

There are pills like Erexa tropin that consist of natural ingredients which work best when combined in certain proportions. Natural treatments appear to be especially effective in men with high metabolic syndrome.

Surgical Treatments

Men who do not like oral treatment can opt for vascular surgery or internal penile pump (penile implant). The vascular surgery is a corrective surgery carried out to correct the blood vessel effect that result to erectile dysfunction. The penile implant is carried out with an inflatable, water filled device called internal penile pump. This is considered as the last option for men who have not received any successful drug treatment. The pump is inserted through the scrotal sac. By pressing the pump, fluid pumps into the penis which provides an erection. Once you press and hold the pump, the penis returns back to its flaccid state.

Final Thoughts

In general, it is always advisable to talk to your doctor for erectile dysfunctional treatments because it can be a symptom of other health issues such as high blood pressure and heart diseases. And keep in mind that the US food and drug administration (FDA) does not recommend natural treatment for erectile dysfunction. If you want to make use of such treatments, be sure to get them from the reliable source.
