The weather is starting to look as if we can finally bid our farewell to thick, stuffy and at times, constricting winter coats. It’s time to dust off your spring and summer wardrobe, and maybe even supplement it with a few fashion forward knits.

Let’s all say hello to the sun and embrace the upcoming warmer months of 2014. Read on for a list we have compiled to guide you with this upcoming season picks.

Lush Cashmere Sweaters

For the gents that enjoy the finer things in life, like fine lush materials. You simply cannot go wrong with the lushness of cashmere. Cashmere is perfectly breathable for the warmer months of the year and also protective against the colder elements of spring.

Timeless, versatile and with many affordable options. Check out the cashmere jumpers on offer by UNIQLO.  Last time I checked they were going for a very affordable £79.99. Being fashion forward is all about experimentation but at times sticking to the classics is much smarter choice, especially when it comes to knitwear.

Pair it in the evening with a sharp blazer on top and over a button up. Oxfords and Brogues underneath and you are good to go.

Statement Knit Pieces

Are you the kind of guy that likes attention or standing out from the crowd, well then a statement knit is exactly up your ally.

Unique, eye-catching and bold. Just have a look at previous seasons runway favourites. Graphic statement pieces were the most popular, Givenchy, Mathew Miller represented this trend, just to name a few.

If you will be incorporating statement knits into your outfit, make sure to pair it with neutral pieces in order for it to standout. Keep the other pieces simple, just so it wont look like a huge mess. Make your graphic statement knit the focal point of your outfit.

Classic Crew

If versatility is what you’re after, look no further than the classic crew neck. Be it a laidback weekend at the beach or a formal evening, you can pair the crew neck with a blazer or better yet a button down shirt with either jeans or chinos.

Have a look at the colour-block versions by Hermes and Prada for a high street chic look. For basics, stick to neutral colour options to make the most of this versatile piece.

Fair Isle Knit

For a more bohemian inspired look, you should consider Fair Isle knits. It may not be a viable option for many gents, but when combined properly with either cropped chinos or shorts it can prove to be very effective.

The intricate weaving technique and patterns are unique, characterized by complex designs made of multiple-coloured strands of wool.

Give it a shot and visit your closest, Topman or H&M retailer and try out some of their own Fair Isle Knits.

Nordic Knits

Most would probably relate Nordic Knits with the colder months of the year, but in my opinion they look great even in the springtime. Pair it with boat shoes and either cropped chinos or shorts, for a casual laidback look, perfect for the spring.

These warm and durable knits are perfect for spring when the sun is out but the wind is still a little gusty; wear it under a windbreaker or blazer.

Check out Ralph Lauren and Topman for some great options.
