GANT by Michael Bastian FW14
The inspiration for the GANT Fall/Winter 2014 collection by Michael Bastian derives from the football field and particularly from the TV show, Friday Night Lights. Dillon, the Texas fictional town of the show, serves as the backdrop for the collection where football is a life-encompassing pursuit. This esteemed traditional sport, embedded in American culture, is a true heritage of American Sportswear and the influences are blazing in Michael Bastian’s last collection for GANT.

This season, looking like you swooped the locker rooms of the Dillon Panthers, will score major style points as Michael Bastian effortlessly transition sports and varsity influences into contemporary menswear. The football references are evident in materials and details tweaking the printed single jerseys, stripe details on shirts and laced up ruggers into a sophisticated and street savvy, no-nonsense silhouette. Incorporated with the unmistakable GANT eastern prep layers of cashmere knits and wool blazers, the collection presents a re-invented sports-luxe look. There is an undeniably masculine confidence found in the southern style leverage of check details, camo prints and denim shirts. Signature pieces include the mini-corduroy cargos, washed flannel shirts, wool intarsia knits and a Bennington checked blazer. Quintessential outerwear this season is the motocross down jacket, with a diagonal closure and corduroy details, and the classic cotton canvas baseball jacket. An athletic color trilogy of the red-blue-white states a groundwork palette in the collection, paired with shades of khaki green, brown and greys, as well as bright pops of orange.

As a tribute to the collection made by Michael Bastian for GANT, the number 9 is a visible detail as it symbolizes the number of main seasons made by Bastian. You will also spot Little Jimmy, our Boston terrier mascot, in a GANT sweater on various knits and jersey garments. Looking back, this really is our greatest work; it’s less of a story and more about genuinely good products. It is our touch down collection.
