Alexander Wang has announced that he will take on the roles of chairman and CEO of his eponymous label, – roles previously held by his mother, Ying, and sister-in-law, Aimie, respectively – effective immediately, in addition to that, he will keep his role as creative director.
“My family and I have been preparing for this shift all along and after 11 years, all family members feel the time is right,” he told WWD. “The family are still board members and give their full support. In addition, executives will gradually be added to the company’s senior management team to support continued growth.”
Wang will not be the first high end designer to take on the dual responsibility of CEO and Creative director, he will join the elites of Christopher Bailey- Burberry and Ralph Lauren, both of whom have held the business and creative reigns at their respective brands.

“Since 2012, Alexander Wang has stood at the creative helm of the maison and has been instrumental in the pursuit of its development. With his proven talent and his irreverent, modern vision of design, Alexander Wang has brought a new impetus to the brand,” a statement from Balenciaga and parent company Kering said at the time.
“Balenciaga and Kering would like to thank Alexander Wang for his accomplishments and wish him the very best with his eponymous brand as well as all his future endeavors,” it added.
